Children’s Liturgy of the Word: Reidy Hall during the 10:00 am Mass

Children’s Liturgy of the Word is my favorite time of the week! During our 10:00 am Mass, all the young, and the young at heart, receive the blessing of the assembly to go hear God’s Word with their little ears. We have a fantastic bunch of loving grown up helpers and, this year, we are going to offer some separate activities for the “littles” and the “bigs” who come. The fun begins Sunday, September 9th and goes all the way to June 30th – at the regular 10:00 am Mass only, except for Christmas and Easter. Intended for children K- 5th grade.

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: Coming in 2019 for 3-6 year olds!

Pray for our Catechists in training.

We have four levels: K-1, 2-3, 4-5, and 6,7,8 Jr. High. This can be a “drop your kids off” event – but, you’re always welcome to stay for the fun! On Sundays when we are in session, it runs from 9:10 to 9:55 am – squeezed right in between masses. watch this year for periodic adult formation offerings at the same time slot. For kids, there are three 7 week unique sessions. Safe Environment Training:  Loyola Center 2:00 -5:00 pm

We take safety for our children very seriously. In compliance with Diocesan requirements, all of our volunteers, children, and families receive VIRTUS safe environment training that is age appropriate. For families and children, that happens at the beginning of the year on one day, Sunday, October 7, 2018. For all other adults who wish to serve children in our parish, we offer a series of training courses throughout the year between regular Sunday Masses. You only need to attend one of these to meet the requirement, and if you have already been, and have kept up on your bulletins, you are not required to attend again. Dates: Sept. 23, Jan 13, March 31.

Preparation for First Reconciliation and Eucharist: Loyola Center 6:00 – 7:30 pm

Designed for those children in the 2nd grade up to the 4th grade with the Pastor’s permission. For grade 5 & up see RCIA/C. The Sacramental life of the Church is FULL of GRACE! Seeing it through the eyes of your young one can be a moving revelation for grown ups. At St. Francis Xavier, preparation for the sacraments is a “with your child” activity. At least one family grown up is required to be along at every session – more is always welcome. We create some inter-generational opportunities. It’s a great time! Our first meeting is Thursday, October 11, 2018.

There will also be opportunity to just gather as community Sunday’s at 4:30 pm, but these meetings may take place in coffee shops, parks, or anywhere we can just be together and have fun! The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults/Children (RCIA/C): Loyola Center 6-8:00 pm

RCIA/C is the way our Catholic Community introduces and welcomes new members to our fold. For children, we adapt existing faith formation programming, and supplement it with additional time and resources, to meet the child where he or she is. For adults, it is a “deep dive” process lasting from September to June – almost an entire year! regular attendance at Sunday Mass is assumed throughout. A sponsor journeys with you the whole time, eager to provide one on one support. As a group, we grow closer to Christ, the Scriptures, and the Church. The entire community at St. Francis Xavier holds you up in prayer and love and freedom – not everyone who begins the process finishes it, or finishes it at the same time, and that’s just fine.
